Jal Jeevan Mission is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
The Jal Jeevan Mission aims to ensure safe and sufficient drinking water for every rural household in India by 2024, through individual tap connections. In addition to providing water access, the program focuses on source sustainability by implementing mandatory measures like grey water management, water conservation, recharge, and rainwater harvesting. The mission adopts a community-driven approach, placing a strong emphasis on Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) to engage and empower local communities. By fostering widespread public participation, Jal Jeevan Mission seeks to create a “Jan Andolan” (people’s movement) for water, making it a shared national priority for everyone.
